Bradistan Monopoly Now Out

Seven months ago I wrote a blog entry about Bradistan being immortalised in the popular board game Monopoly. Well, the game has now been released presumably in time for the "Christmas Rush".

The local rag Telegraph & Argus is reporting some of the landmarks which are included. Pride of place in the Mayfair square is the beautiful Alhambra Theatre, an amenity that the local council wanted to destroy a couple of decades back just like the current plight of our beloved Odeon. There is no news about whether the Odeon has been included in the game, but I presume not as it might not exist for much longer.

Some of the sights reported to be included are fairly obvious but I would like to take a look at the game for myself and see what is actually there. I have barely visited the town centre in the last weeks so it is just a case of finding the time to get that done.

I do wonder who will actually buy this game though? Can't see anyone not from here buying it apart from a few nostalgic ex-pats, and a lot of current Bradistanis probably won't want to be reminded about the terrible state of the city centre right now. The game will probably seem very old-fashioned to those reared on Playstations and the X-Box but the manufacturers must feel that they can shift a few to make it worth their while.
