English Dogs (Part Two)

Last week I wrote a blog entry about the street punk band English Dogs. I mentioned how the singer Wakey was a unique performer on the stage, full of charisma with a touch of madness thrown in for good measure. As a photographer, I always aim to go beyond the surface when I am taking someone's portrait and I had the feeling that photographing Wakey could be very interesting.

The success of any photo-shoot depends on the relationship between the subject and the photographer. As someone who specialises in portraiture I rely on my subject giving something of themselves to me so that I can make a picture that has some depth in it. With Wakey, I explained to him that I wanted to capture the man behind the character.

At this session I could feel a firm bond of trust between us as I started shooting and as a result I believe I was able to get some images that really showed the deeper side of this punk singer.
